Climbs, Flat Roads, and Coasting Downhill

Climbing Up Hill: Relationship with Food Ahhh food, how I love thee. Food as comfort. Food for nostalgia. Food for stress management. Food for celebrating. All of these things come together to form my relationship with food. These are behaviors that are learned throughout our whole lives. One of the things that WW does is it helps you explore this relationship. And honestly that exploration continues to be the most challenging but most vital part of the my WW journey. These past two weeks I found myself having some seriously impulsive eating. I have not figured out why it happened, but I have found that talking about it helps a ton. I talked about it in my last two meetings and got some good guidance. My coach Vicki brought the straight facts that sometimes there is a monster inside us, and just reflecting on the behavior after we do it won't tame the monster. You have to attack it mid fight or before the fight starts. You have to be willing to stop yourself or not even start, and ...

Removing Friction

Image
These past couple of weeks in WW we have talked about removing friction from my our lives, specifically the friction to discourages us from making the choices that will help us reach out goals. The idea is pretty simple. If you clear the path and make the better choice the easy choice, you will do things that get you closer to your goal. Until we started talking about this I didn't realize how much I do this every single day and week. I know I learned many of the items from WW but some of them are behaviors I saw growing up and still do to this day. Meal Planning Growing up I very clearly remember my parents meal planning for 2 weeks at a time. It was always on a small notepad that would stay on the fridge. My dad would then grocery shop every 2 weeks. I always loved grocery shopping with him. I still am what most people would consider weird, and enjoy grocery shopping. Usually around Thursday or Friday I plan for the upcoming week. I start my list with our standard items that we ...

Pelofondo - Done!

Image
Well, that was something. In 3 hours and 10 minutes I rode for 51.63 miles! I literally cannot imagine riding 2.33 more miles, and then running a half marathon. I am glad I gave myself such a long window of time to complete this. I am not necessarily feeling like typing a blow by blow because well, it was not that exciting really during it. The last 30 minutes bordered on brutal but of course there was nothing that would stop me at that point. Last week and this week, I finished on the Hamilton ride, and there is a part near the end where Robyn talks about thinking of someone who inspires you, and it was just a boost I needed to get my head right for those last bits.  Outside of Pelofondo this past week brought a milestone in my weight loss. When setting my goal weight I picked literally the highest weight I could for a goal because I wanted to get there and stop paying for WW. Yup haha. Once you are lifetime it is free, as long as you maintain within a couple pounds of your goal w...

Pelofondo Training

Image
Pelofondo is an event that happens a couple times a year (from what I can tell) and it is coming up next weekend. Being the lover for all things endurance, and with my goal of a Half Ironman, I knew I needed to  work towards this. Individuals register to ride a set number of miles, and so I selected the lowest amount, 35 miles.  It seems that there is quite a bit to Pelofondo, such as joining a team, or fundraising, but with me still being relatively new to this I just decided to register as something to work towards. Over the last couple of weekends I increased the time I was riding, going from 60 minutes to 75 to 90. This weekend was going to be the real test of where I was at. I could tell that I would be able to make the 35 mile distance, but what I didn't know was how I would feel during it. Well, today I found out. I started riding at 8am. I had picked out 4 rides on my Peloton that would be the structure but I knew I would not go with the cues of the instructor. M...

Built for it?

Image
A couple days ago I posted on Connect (the WW social media platform) about my run, and someone shared that they had always wanted to be a runner but they didn't know if they were "built for it". I  responded and shared  about how I had thought the same thing, and yet I just tried, and I eventually ran a marathon. The next day she commented that she was going for it and was asking me about shoe recommendations. And I thought to myself, holy cow...if I could potentially inspire someone to take that leap...well thats just amazing...I thought of my blog because it was the documentation of my journey to running a marathon. Here's my smiling face after I finished: So here I am, almost 7 years later. These last seven years are certainly something I am sure I will dig into when I write but for right now, I just want to talk about this moment.  Do you have something that you have always wanted to do but you thought "Am I built for it?" or "I could never do that...
